If your teenager is struggling with substance abuse, you may not know where to turn. Resources for adults with addiction are common, but not all of these organizations offer programs for young people, too. Teenage and adolescent addiction treatment requires special care and attention; they have their whole lives ahead of them and it is so important to teach them the skills they need to be successful and happy without relying on drugs or alcohol. At The Springboard Center, we are committed to providing premier treatment services for all Permian Basin residents who are seeking help with their addiction — including teenagers aged 13-17.

Our adolescent intensive outpatient program (IOP) was created specifically with this age group in mind. IOPs offer a highly structured, evidence-based treatment option for young people that still gives them the flexibility to live at home, attend school or participate in other healthy activities. The Springboard Center’s adolescent IOP typically serves as an alternative to or extension of residential treatment — in many cases, our teenage clients are unable to admit to a residential program or have completed a residential program and are seeking continued care. IOPs allow participants to engage in the treatment they need without disrupting everyday activities. Our adolescent IOP meets weekday evenings to ensure it is as accessible as possible.

At The Springboard Center, we focus on providing effective, clinically vetted and sustainable treatments that offer our clients with the tools to successfully transition back into sober daily life. Our adolescent IOP accomplishes this using a unique combination of the Matrix Model and the 12-Step Program.

The Matrix Model is a scientifically studied method for structuring intensive outpatient programs. First developed in the 1980s by addiction treatment researchers, the Matrix Model has since become well-known as one of the most effective types of substance abuse recovery. It has been adopted by many major treatment organizations including the National Institute on Drug Abuse, which is the gold standard in the USA for drug abuse research and quality assurance. The Matrix Model uses an optimized combination of clinically effective treatments such as cognitive behavioral therapy, person-centered therapy and family therapy. It is based on the principle that a time-limited, structured program can provide a sense of accomplishment and reward as each client moves through specific steps and sessions.

The 12-Step Program is perhaps the most common and most recognizable method of substance abuse treatment today. It was first introduced in the late 1930s by one of the founders of Alcoholics Anonymous and has proven itself effective time and again over the nearly 80 years since. It is still used by organizations like Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous and helps thousands of people overcome their addictions every year. Just like the Matrix Model, the 12-Step Program focuses on providing its participants with concrete steps that add structure and stability to recovery. Additionally, completing steps restores confidence and accomplishment over the course of the program. The 12-Step Program is also known for its emphasis on spirituality — when it comes to treating addiction, spiritual healing is just as important as healing the mind and body as it provides a faith community support system and a belief in a higher purpose.

Our adolescent IOP is similar in structure to our adult IOP, but with several adjustments to account for the needs of younger people. It takes place over the course of twelve weeks with meetings every evening Monday through Thursday, ensuring structure and accountability without being restrictive. Our therapists provide a safe and secure environment to discuss personal issues, build life and social skills, and find acceptance and support. We are also sensitive to the day-to-day stressors of teenagers, including school, extracurricular activities and social or peer pressures. The program includes individual, group and family counseling across the eleven to thirteen hours of treatment each week. All counseling sessions are led by licensed professionals and specialized staff at The Springboard Center. Our treatment sessions are designed to be interactive and engaging; the heart of the recovery process lies in these sessions and we ensure that they are a positive and constructive experience.
